What’s next for local TV on Freeview?

The Government invited responses to our local TV proposals in the framework for Local TV Consultation which has now closed. A report will be published in the coming months.

The Government intends to address barriers to entry and create the right regulatory incentives to enable a new local TV market to emerge on a scale never achieved before.

Following implementation of the legislation, a number of local TV licences will be awarded through a competitive selection process run by Ofcom.

The new licensed local television services will benefit from access to sufficient broadcasting spectrum, appropriate prominence on electronic programme guides and will work within a new licensing regime.
